Govan Citadel Songsters
The
Govan Citadel Corps of The Salvation Army has a long history of
excellence in music making and is held in high regard by many for the
standard of its musical groups, both brass and choral
As
part of that music making the Govan Songsters have since their
inception in 1918 been spreading the gospel message through the
presentation of choral music. Performing a varied range of christian
choral repertoire they participate in the services held at the Govan
Salvation Army each Sunday, provide musical programmes in local
churches and regularly travel throughout the United Kingdom to present
their ministry through music. Currently numbering fifty-six members,
the songsters have participated at a number of major Salvation Army
events over the years including musical concerts and presentations at
the Royal Albert Hall, London
As well as
performing throughout the United Kingdom, Govan Songsters have on two
occasions visited Europe undertaking tours to both Holland and Norway.
In October 2005 they will visit Canada for the first time for a twelve
day tour
Chic
Ramsay, has been serving as leader since 2001, having previously been
leader between 1985 and 1994. Born to Salvationist parents in 1958,
Chic benefited from a strong christian and musical upbringing both
within the home and the Govan Corps. Married to Audrey who is a member
of the songsters, they have two sons, Fraser a member of the songsters
also and Mathew
Since
becoming leader for a second period in 2001 Chic's prayer is that
wherever the songsters have the opportunity to present their message in
music, God will speak to the hearts of those who listen and people will
be won for the Kingdom of God
