Bobby Irvine
Bobby Irvine
grew up in Kilbirnie; never very far from making music whether it
be singing in choirs or playing in brass bands. Most of this musical
activity
took place in School or at the local Salvation Army church
As he developed his
musical skills he
frequently won prizes in many competitions all over Scotland
in brass as well as singing. Although he decided not to follow music as
a full
time career (currently working with a local paper manufacturer) he
spends most
of his leisure time making music, particularly singing. Bobby spent
time studying with Neilson Taylor; who was at that time based at The
Royal Scottish
Academy
of Music and Drama in Glasgow. Many opportunities ensued with regular appearances in
Brass Band
and Choral concerts in various venues throughout the UK and further
a field with a performance of Handel's Messiah in Kuwait
Bobby has also
developed his skills as a conductor especially
through the
Salvation Army at their Scottish National School of Music. The Army has
also
provided many opportunities to sing at concerts and church conferences
in the UK, Switzerland, Holland and in the United States. With venues
including the Royal Concert Hall, Glasgow,
the Royal Albert Hall, Music Centre Vredenburg in Utrecht
and the
Phillips Sport's Arena in Atlanta, Georgia in the USA. In addition to broadcasting on local radio; in 2002 Bobby had the
pleasure of
taking part in BBC Radio 2's "The Wonder of Christmas" from London's
Royal
Albert Hall - an event which he has been invited to take part in again
this
Christmas
His
style of music can
cover anything from
Scottish traditional to show music and from gospel to oratorio. In 2000
he had
the opportunity to record his first CD, which although very simplistic
in form
with only voice and piano it covers most of the styles he enjoys
singing. He
has subsequently appeared on live Salvation Army concert recordings
from the
Royal Albert Hall in London, Utrecht in the Netherlands and Basel in Switzerland
Bobby currently lives in Ayr with his wife
Ruth and two
children Rachel & Andrew
