19 April 2008
Fife
Brass Band Festival
In a closely fought contest the band
produced an encouraging 3rd place result in Dunfermline. Even better
was Craig Kilgour’s superb cornet solo performance of Peter Grahams ‘
Whirwind ‘ . This item really caught the ear of adjudicator Stan
Lippeatt and won the award for best 1st Section instrumentalist.
However, according to the adjudicator’s notes, some slips in the final
two items of the programme cost the band points and of course a better
result. Conductor Martyn Ramsay declared himself satisfied and pleased
with the band’s progress since the Scottish Championships.

Band moves hall
We have now moved
to a new rehearsal facility.
We are no longer based at the Shanks Industrial Park, but have joined
up with 1st Barrhead Scout Group in Arthurlie Street, Barrhead.
There are ongoing renovations to the hall which will make the venue a
more permanent and comfortable hall.

Success at the
Scottish Championships
The Band were
delighted to achieve 4th place in the First Section at the Scottish
Championships in Kirkcaldy.
Under conductor, Martyn Ramsay, the Band consolidated its place
in the First Section by turning in a creditable performance boosted by
strengthening of the front and back row cornets and in the bass
section.
Our next outing is on April 19 at Dunfermline Carnegie Contest.
